Jazz Band

Jazz Ensemble is an additional opportunity for members of the Marching Band and Concert Band. This ensemble is active during the second semester and plays specific popular styles including, jazz, funk, rock, blues, and Latin jazz styles.

The Jazz Band uses a traditional “Big Band” format, which means that the ensemble is made up of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, bass, guitar, keyboard, electric guitar and drum set. Students who do not play those instruments are welcome to learn in order to a part of the group.

Instruction focuses on the technicalities and unique styling that is specific to jazz. Students are encouraged to learn improvisation, which means coming up with a solo on-the-spot. Jazz Band is non-competitive and performs at a number of festivals, concerts, and school and community events.
